ISLAMABAD, Feb 17: Nomination papers of 17 candidates for election to the Senate were rejected by the Election Commission during the scrutiny process which ended on Friday.

According to a press release of the commission, a total of 166 persons had filed their nomination papers.

Of the 17 candidates whose papers were rejected, four belonged to PPP and one each to MQM, PML-N, PML-Q and JUI-F. Nine of them were independent candidates.

The names of the candidates whose papers were rejected are Mazhar Hussain Mirza, Mohammad Mohsin Khan Leghari, Sarfraz, Najma Ahmed, Umar Khan Ali Sher Zai, Mungal Das Arwani, Ammar Ahmed Khan, Mohammad Tahir, Nek Mohammad Khan, Waqas Qayyum Gil, Hussain Khan, Ahmad Khan, Fauzia Tabassum, Hina, Javed Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed Gichki and J. Pall.
