KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday announced a countrywide membership campaign including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from February 9.

Addressing a press conference at Khursheed Begum Secretariat, Deputy Convener Rabita Committee Anis Ahmed Qaimkhani said that the decision to start the membership campaign has been taken in view of the increasing public interest in the party and the political philosophy of its chief Altaf Hussain.

Qaimkhani said that the decision of the membership campaign was taken in a meeting of the Rabita Committee.

He said that camps would be set up throughout the country in order to facilitate the people and to inform them about the MQM and the political philosophy and ideology of Altaf Hussain.

He said that elected representatives, office-bearers and workers of the party will be present in the camps to assist the people.

Qaimkhani appealed people of the country to strengthen hands of Altaf Hussain for bringing real change in the country.

He called upon the people to come forward and play their role in finding the solutions of the problems being faced by the poor and middle class of the country.

He said every tactic was used against MQM in the past to keep people away from the party, which is, he said is the only political party in the country having its roots in the poor and middle class segments of the society.

He said MQM has sent honest, educated and able people from the poor and middle class segments of the society in the assemblies.
