LAHORE, Feb 4: As the Senate elections draw closer, pressure grows on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PML-Q splinter group ‘Likeminded’ to formally enter into an alliance and finalise seat adjustment.

In this connection, Humayun Akhtar Khan and Haroon Akhtar Khan of Likeminded group met with Nawaz Sharif here on Saturday to “stress urgency of an alliance” between the two league factions and the need to sign a formal draft agreement before the Senate election so that both could reap maximum political benefit.

According to PML-N sources, both parties are working on a draft which promises 30 National Assembly seats and one Senate slot to the Likeminded who had originally demanded 37 seats.

“Though there was no formal discussion on the draft on Saturday, but both sides committed to continue discussions and try to reach an agreement before the Senate elections so that they could know what they were heading for,” says an insiders.

He said if the two sides did not formalise their political relationship before Senate polls, they would end up contesting elections against each other and defeat the purpose of an alliance. So, both sides were working it out and might reach some kind of understanding in February, he claimed.
