LAHORE: Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz on Thursday said that the provincial chief minister was in a state of panic over the deaths caused by reaction from the counterfeit medicine handed and therefore needed to be examined by a doctor, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives outside the Punjab Assembly, Riaz said the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), which issued the spurious drugs to the patients for free,  came under the provincial government’s jurisdiction which was why Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was ultimately responsible for the damage done by them.

Riaz further said that the chief minister even someday say that the Mayo Hospital and the Lahore General Hospital fell under the federal government’s remit.

The provincial opposition leader moreover said that he prayed that members of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) would follow in the footsteps of their colleague Dost Mohammad Khosa and raise their voices against ‘the dictatorial and stubborn prince’.

On the other hand, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that it was at the chief minister’s discretion whether he wanted to award the health ministry to anyone.

Sanaullah praised Sharif saying that hardly anyone could have run the health ministry as well as the chief minister did.
