LAHORE: Had the court not ordered stoppage of LNG (liquefied natural gas) import from Central Asia, there would have been no gas crisis in the country.
President Asif Ali Zardari’s Coordinator in Punjab Naveed Chaudhry said this on Tuesday at a press conference at the Press Club.
Chaudhry said to deal with energy crisis the government wanted to import LNG from Central Asia in 2010 but the Supreme Court had accepted a petition in this regard and issued a stay order.
He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was also responsible for current energy crisis because it had scared the investors during Benazir Bhutto government.
Elaborating, he said Nawaz’s close aide Saifur Rehman had constituted fake cases against foreign investors which resulted in flight of capital from the country.
He criticised Nawaz Sharif for taking memo issue to court and favouring the idea of military courts in Karachi.
He said only “political vultures” and “turncoats” were joining the PTI, claiming its perceived popularity would be exposed at the time of next election. Chaudhry did not rule out a Nawaz-Zardari meeting in the coming days and said the appreciation of Nawaz Sharif by President Zardari in his speech and Mr Sharif’s ‘no’ to ‘Go Zardari’ slogans in Karachi hinted at some positive development.
