NEW DELHI: News reports say a collision on a northern Indian road in dense fog has killed 10 children and the driver taking them to school.

Press Trust of India said Monday the children were between 5 and 8 years old. Twenty other children were injured in the accident.

PTI reported the van carrying the children and a truck collided head-on due to poor visibility. The accident happened on the outskirts of Ambala in the northern state of Haryana.

While India is known for its brutal summer heat, temperatures in December and January drop sharply. Heavy fog that blankets north India, especially in early morning and late evening, disrupts flights and trains and causes a slew of road accidents.—AP
