ISLAMABAD, Dec 29: Taking lead over other institutions towards safe-CNG-usage goal, National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have banned motorway entry for vehicles with CNG cylinders fitted on the roof.

“This is a precautionary step aimed to avoid dangerous accidents as gas cylinders can result in death and destruction if proper care is not taken,” DIG Motorway Police Jehanzeb Khan Jogazai said on Thursday.

He briefed reporters about the dangers associated with CNG cylinders, driving in foggy weather and necessary precautions to pre-empt fatal mishaps. Mr Jogazai said that there is excessive fog on motorways during winter season so road users should take extra care for the sake of safe traveling. He also advised motorists to prefer plying on Grand Trunk (GT) Road instead of motorways because the former has far less fog and is safer for driving than the latter.

In case of traveling on motorways necessary precautions should be taken care of including keeping fog lights and back lights on. Speed should be controlled and distance between vehicles be increased. Driving at night should be particularly avoided on motorways, Mr Jogazai advised. In case of any problem, motorists should contact on helpline 130.

The motorway official further said that for the convenience of travelers, it has been decided that traffic violation fines can be paid on the spot. Nevertheless, the old method of fine collection will also continue, he added.
