HOBART: Australia's hot fast-bowling prospect Pat Cummins is keen to play in the Indian Premier League, reports said on Wednesday.

His manager Neil Maxwell said the 18-year-old pace sensation would nominate for the IPL auction, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Cummins, who took six for 79 in a man-of-the-match performance on his Test debut against South Africa last month, said he wanted to experience the IPL, but only if there was no overlap with his Australian and domestic commitments.

“I see it as a really good opportunity to play in different conditions against the top players, and it's good fun,” Cummins told the newspaper before scans revealed he has a stress fracture in his left heel.

“I enjoyed my time in India during the Champions League and liked the conditions,” he said.

“I think with Twenty20 cricket you play every couple of days and it's not too many overs, so you never put too much stress on your body.

“And talking to some of the other boys, if you're going to play a Test series there (on the subcontinent) in the future, any experience over there is a good experience.”

Maxwell said he sees significant benefits in Cummins being exposed to a competition in which he would play with and against some of the sport's biggest names.

“All the players I have spoken to who have played in the IPL have said what a great experience it has been for them to mix with players they have played against over the years,” he said.

The next IPL tournament begins in Chennai on April 4 and ends on May 27.
