KARAK, Dec 5: Khattak Ittehad has demanded that the proposed Karak university should be established at the oil and gas producing Banda Daud Shah tehsil.

A meeting of the organisation held here on Monday threatened that the work on the oil and gas exploration in the area would be stopped if the proposed university was established anywhere in the district.

The meeting was presided over by Banda Daud Shah tehsil president of the organisation Iqbal Faryadi and attended among others by former provincial minister Abdul Haleem Khattak and former tehsil nazim Haji Hameedullah.

The meeting showed reservations over the establishment of the proposed university at Karak town. The participants said that since Banda Daud Shah was the oil and gas producing tehsil of the district, the proposed university should be established there.

They resolved that if the demand was not fulfilled the people would ask the oil and gas exploration companies to stop work on their projects.

Meanwhile, the police arrested seven people of two rival groups after they exchanged fire over a dispute on the ownership of land in Tordhand area the other day.

The police also recovered weapons from the possession of the detained men and registered cases against them.

PAKHTUNS RIGHTS:

Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf leader Maj (retd) Masood Sharif Khattak has said that the ANP leadership has divided Pakhtuns for personal gains.

This he said while addressing public meetings at Ahmadabad and Takht Nusrati on Monday. He said that ANP leadership fled the province at a critical time and left the people in the lurch.

Masood Sharif Khattak, who was formerly director general of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), said that the country was facing enormous challenges, alleging the rulers were incompetent to cope with it.

He alleged that the elected representatives of the district had compromised the rights of the Pakhtuns and added that ANP and PPP coalition government usurped the rights of the people as they had given only Rs540 million as oil and gas royalty to the Karak district.

Mr Khattak resolved that the PTI would give practical shape to the industrial zone to be established in the district if the party came to power.

PTI district president Altaf Qadir advocate also spoke at both public meetings.
