KARACHI, Nov 28: Madina Shahbaz (Baldia Town) pulled off an upset in the ninth Karachi United Football League (KUFL) 2011-12 with a 3-1 win over Irfan Memorial (Landhi) at the Korangi Baloch Stadium here on Sunday evening.

The match started with Irfan Memorial’s strikers Zahoor Ahmed, Abdullah, Ayaz Samoon and Fazal Baloch trying hard to score from opening chances. But the score line remained 0-0 due to their poor finishing.

The pace of the game increased in the second half as Irfan Memorial substituted Farhan Khan and Shahbaz Samoon in place of Zahoor Ahmed and Ayaz Samoon.

The change had a negative effect on the team’s performance as poor coordination between the Irfan Memorial ranks caused Madina Shahbaz to pounce on the opportunity.

Madina Shahbaz’s forward line of Asif Khan, Naeem Abbas, Mohammad Adil and Saqib Sattar put the Irfan Memorial defence in clear danger.

Eventually, right winger Naeem Abbas put his side 2-0 up with two goals.

One was a 25-yard strike that beat Irfan Memorial’s goalie Kamran Khan in the 68th minute and the other a 78th-minute conversion of an Asif Khan pass.

Irfan Memorial managed to respond with Abdullah as he made it 2-1 in the 80th minute when a shot from just outside the box sneaked past Amjad Khan in the goal.

But Saqib Sattar made the tie beyond Irfan Memorial’s reach when he made it 3-1 for Madina Shahbaz in the 85th minute.

The win helped Madina Shahbaz take second place in their group with nine points from five games, while Irfan Memorial remained on eight points from the same number of games.

The match was supervised by referees Saeed Khan, Ahmed Mian and Abdul Wahid with Abdul Karim as the match commissioner.
