KARACHI, Nov 14: Karachi Whites’ hopes of qualifying for the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division II received a big boost as Multan were forced to follow on at the NBP Sports Complex here on Monday.

The visitors, who were dismissed for 210 while replying to the Whites’ 440-7 declared, had reached 47-3 in their second innings. They still require 183 to avoid an innings defeat on Tuesday’s final day of the four-day.

Earlier, paceman Tabish Khan (4-58) and slow left-armer Faraz Ahmed Khan (5-52) shared the wickets after Multan resumed at their overnight score of 57-1.

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) were in sight of a win as Lahore Ravi stumbled to 25-2 after SNGPL enforced the follow on upon them at the Gaddafi Stadium.

The Ravians had earlier made 242 in reply to SNGPL’s 491-8 declared with skipper Usman Salahuddin contributing 76. The wrecker-in-chief was Asad Ali with figures of 5-52.

The game between Lahore Shalimar and Hyderabad was heading for a close finish at the LCCA Ground with the visitors needing 88 more runs for victory with four second-innings wickets standing.

Hyderabad hit back strongly after conceding a lead of 82 after being all out for 266 in their first innings by dismissing the home team for 79 with skipper Mir Ali Talpur claiming five for 15.

Division II leaders Peshawar staged a great comeback to give themselves an even chance for victory against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) at the Arbab Niaz Stadium. Chasing 302, the home side benefited from a 102-run opening stand between Mohammad Fayyaz (55) and Israrullah (78 not out) to reach 154-1 at stumps on day three.

Earlier, Pakistan discard Yasir Arafat scored 99 as KRL made 261 in the second innings.

Quetta obtained a slim four-run lead after collecting 277 in their first innings against United Bank at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad with former Test paceman Shabbir Ahmed taking 6-47. The bankers then closed the day on 107-4 in the second innings.
