ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: An activist of the banned Hizbut Tahrir (HuT), who went missing on August 21 from Sector G-11/1, stated before a magistrate that he was abducted by government agencies.

The Islamabad High Court on August 12 had declared Osama Hanif, Imran Yousufzai, Hayan Dawar Khan and Dr Abdul Qayyum as missing persons and sent their cases to the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances.

Osama Hanif's counsel Umer Hayat Sindhu on October 12 told the IHC that his client along with two other missing persons had returned home. On this, the court ordered the police to record their statements.

While recording his statement before Magistrate Malik Farrukh, Osama Hanif alleged that government agencies were behind his abduction.

He alleged that an army officer, Major Tariq was among his abductors, adding the same person had summoned him and his father to his office in 2005.

The statement showed that Mr Hanif was kept in a very narrow room in a building at Sector G-9/4.

The statement said he was severely tortured from the day of his abduction till August 1. As a result, he was badly hurt and could not even move.

Later, a doctor examined him and after two months' physical exercise, his condition stabilised, it added.

In the statement, Mr Hanif said the abductors inquired about his personal and professional information as well as asked about his religious and political ideology.

He said he was being followed by some unknown people before his abduction and still being followed by them.

According to the statement, Mr Hanif was abducted by some armed men who were wearing black uniforms. He was released on October 7.
