LAHORE: Pakistan has no objection to granting the most favoured nation (MFN) status to India, Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim said here on Tuesday.
“We will definitely carry it on. However, we want to proceed step by step,” he said while talking to reporters after inaugurating an exhibition of carpets.He said technical details would be finalised at a meeting of the commerce secretaries of the two countries to be held in New Delhi next month.
Replying to a question, he said the Afghan Transit Trade (ATT) agreement was only between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Under the pact, Pakistan had an easy passage to Central Asia through Afghanistan, he said.
The minister said India was now ready to support Pakistan in getting approval of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for its products' access to European markets.
He said Pakistan and India had also agreed to issue year-long multiple visas to businessmen.
About his recent visit to India at the head of a 75-member delegation of leading businessmen, he said it was the first visit by a Pakistani commerce minister to the neighbouring country in 35 years.
He said the Indian commerce minister had asked his country's ambassador to Geneva to make preparations for supporting Pakistan when it took up with the European Union the issue of access to markets.—APP
