PESHAWAR, Sept 15: Governor Masood Kausar on Thursday vowed that the government with the help of tribal people would foil designs of external forces to create lawlessness in Fata.

“External elements are creating lawlessness in Fata and tribal people have totally rejected the menace of extremism and terrorism in the name of religion,” said the governor while speaking at a function held at the Governor House to mark the start of a peace walk by the renowned social mobiliser Kharlzada Kasrat Rai.

“The lawlessness is not the creation of Fata people but is creation of external elements, the tribal people are peace loving having their own rich culture, customs and progressive thinking.”The governor said that Fata had produced outstanding personalities, poets, statesmen and ambassadors of peace who showed their mark in diversified fields. He particularly referred to founder of Pakistan Quaid-i- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, torch-bearer of peace Bacha Khan, illustrious statesman and architect of 1973 Constitution Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and champion of democracy and Benazir Bhutto who had great love and regards for people of Fata.

Paying rich tributes to brave people of Fata for their meritorious and invaluable services for Pakistan, the governor said required concentration to Fata progress was not given in the past.

He said the government accorded priority to peace in Fata and had increased its annual budget to record Rs15 billion this year.

He urged brave people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata to come forward and extend full support to 'our needy brothers of Sindh' who were confronted with floods and rain devastation. “The people of Sindh had extended exemplary assistance and help to people of KP during last year floods and 2005 earthquake and it was our national obligation to support Sindhis during this testing time and show solidarity with them.”

The governor said peace walk by eminent social mobiliser Kharlzada Kasrat Rai from Hafizabad district will help promote message of peace across the country and in the world as well.

Earlier, Mr Rai said he started peace walk from Bab-i-Khyber on September 14 and will end it on Mazar-i-Quaid on November 24 to highlight the soft image of Pakistan and discourage militancy and terrorism.

He expressed the hope that his name would come in the Guinness Book of World Records after completion of the walk in 72 days. —APP
