CHITRAL, Aug 24: The district headquarters hospital, Chitral, referred a case of autopsy of a young woman to the teaching hospital of Saidu Medical College, Swat, on Wednesday after its doctors failed to determine the cause of her death during the external post-mortem.
Medical superintendent of the DHQ hospital, Chitral, Dr Nazir Ahmed told this correspondent that the body of one Malka Bibi of Charun village was brought to the hospital by the local police for autopsy and during external post-mortem the doctors found signs of bruises on the body, but could not decide about the cause of her death.
He said that the team of doctors decided to refer the case to the teaching hospital of Saidu Medical College for further autopsy, as they had a department of forensic medicine.
An official of Booni police station told this correspondent that brother of the deceased had filed a report with the police station alleging that his sister was tortured to death by her husband and mother-in-law.
However, her in-laws have claimed that Malka, 27, fell unconscious, fell on the ground and later died.
The official said that the police took cognizance of the case and sent the body for autopsy to the DHQ hospital. He said that the case would be registered after the final autopsy report was received.
He said that the woman was married four years ago and had a three-year-old son.
DROWNED: A student of a local college drowned in Chitral river here on Wednesday. Javed Shah of Rech village slipped into the heavy waters while swimming in the river in front of Shahi Fort, Chitral.
Local volunteers have started search for his body, but could not find it till Wednesday evening.
