PESHAWAR, Aug 9: The commissioner of Peshawar division has directed the officials concerned to streamline the procedure of payment of compensation to the victims of terrorism.

In this connection a meeting was held here on Tuesday with Commissioner Akbar Khan in the chair. Besides others officials concerned, district coordination officer of Peshawar, medical superintendent of Lady Ready Hospital, RMO of Hayatabad Medical Complex, and in-charge of Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar attended the meeting.

The commissioner told the meeting that cases of compensation to victims of terrorism got delayed, resulting in inconvenience to the affected people. “Therefore, there is a need to streamline the procedure so as quick payment of compensation to the victims is ensured,” he said.

The meeting after threadbare discussion decided that the hospital authorities, after receiving dead and injured would fax the list immediately to the offices of commissioner and DCO.

“The hospital authorities will make all efforts to record correct names and addresses of the victims in the said list, including all injured whether major or minor,” the meeting decided.

Similarly, the DCO Peshawar will depute a senior officer to remain in the hospital for at least three consecutive days so the list of the victims is obtained in time.

The hospital authorities will ensure that lists of victims are provided to the district administration as early as possible. The meeting noted that categorisation of major and minor injured took at least three days and at the most three weeks.

The commissioner directed that notwithstanding the maximum period of three weeks, efforts should be made by the hospital authorities to categorise and communicate the list of major injured to the DCOs within the shortest possible time.

Moreover, the initial list provided by hospital authorities must contain names of those patients referred to other hospitals for specialised treatment and where a case gets delayed, full justification for the delay be given while submitting such cases for further processing. — APP
