KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday issued orders not to arrest Afaq Ahmed, chairman of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement - Haqiqi, over any fresh cases without its permission, DawnNews reported.

The court issued the order during a hearing of a request filed by Mr Ahmed’s defence. The request states that Mr Ahmed has been languishing in jail since April 2004 on multiple politically motivated cases. Moreover, the request claimed that the police were not providing information on the cases.

On the court’s order, Karachi police presented a report on Ahmed’s cases in the Sindh High Court.

According to the report, Mr Ahmed has been granted bail in two out of the 10 cases filed against him. Moreover, no witnesses have come forward against the defence in six other cases. The remaining two cases are currently being heard in court.
