LAHORE: Pakistan’s tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi’s Haq Foundation is one of the few charities which have been selected by the ATP World Tour USA to get US$10,000 as grant.

A press release issued by Aisam says: “Beginning this year the ATP World Tour USA — the professional regulatory body of the game of tennis — has initiated a programme to provide donations to selected charity and welfare organisations of the world, including those sponsored by tennis players.

“It is to inform you with utmost pleasure and sense of pride that the Haq Foundation has been chosen by the ATP for this programme and will be given a grant of US$10,000.

“Aisam is pleased to announce that he will pass on this grant to the UNDP towards their efforts for rehabilitation of last year’s flood affected people of Pakistan,” he concludes.

The ATP has announced names of inaugural recipients of the grant.

They are: Rafa Nadal Foundation, Bryan Brothers Foundation, Japan Tennis Association’s earthquake relief fund, organisations supporting a range of causes, including healthcare for children in Memphis and Bucharest, relief for victims of natural disasters in Pakistan and Japan, sports and education programmes for disadvantaged youth in Washington DC and Congo, and social services for the disabled in Argentina and China.

Each of them will get US$10,000 annually.
