LAHORE, July 4: A man was killed and one of his two bodyguards injured when four motorcyclists opened fire on them in Suki Taliwali Galli in Gujjarpura on Monday.

The police said 25-year-old Muhammad Waqas, a cable operator, was going along with his two bodyguards Ali Imran, alias Bahadar, and Ziafat when his alleged rivals shot at them and fled.

Waqas died on the spot while Imran is said to be in critical condition at a hospital. The body was sent for autopsy. car thieves:  Mughalpura investigation police arrested an ex-Rangers official and the owner of an auto workshop involved in various car theft incidents and seized from them a stolen vehicle.

The accused identified as Muhammad Ishaq of Vehari and Zahid Bashir of Harbanspura confessed to committing five thefts and transporting stolen cars with tampered numbers to Darra Adam Khel of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Civil Lines SP (Investigation) Liaquat Ali Malik told Dawn that a police team began investigation in connection with five car thefts and managed to capture red-handed Muhammad Ishaq, who was transporting a stolen Suzuki Mehran car to Darra Adam Khel.

He said preliminary investigation showed that Ishaq was first dismissed from Rangers, Karachi, and later sacked from the Punjab police because of his involvement in criminal acts.

The SP said Ishaq also worked as driver of a retired police officer and a bureaucrat in Lahore, adding that he after losing his Rangers job joined the Punjab police.

The accused would lift a car, replace the number plate with a motorcycle’s near Mughalpura Dry Port, park the car in a parking lot of Shalimar and then take it away to tribal belt and sell it to Haji Aftaab Khan.

ACTION: SP Liaquat Ali Malik said a stern action would be taken against those police officials and citizens who were found involved in damaging public property.

The SP issued a statement on Monday following an incident in which Garhi Shahu police officials punctured tyres of vehicles parked outside houses a couple of days ago.
