RAWALPINDI, July 3: A man gunned down his wife and a son over some domestic dispute in Allama Iqbal Colony here early Sunday, police said.

Waqar Ahmed told the police that he was residing on the first floor of the double-storey house while his uncle Arif Mehmood lived on the ground floor along with his family.

He said the elder son of Mr Mehmood, Sher Yar Ahmed, 22, used to live with him on the second floor.

Mr Ahmed said that in the wee hours of Sunday when he and Sher Yar were asleep in their room, his younger cousin Adnan Mehmood, aged 8, came to them and said his father was quarrelling with his mother and would kill her.

He said seeing the terrified boy, he along with Sher Yar got up and rushed downstairs.

When they entered the house, Mr Mehmood fired a gunshot at his son Sher Yar and injured him critically, he added.

However, Waqar escaped narrowly.

On hearing the gunshot, the other family members rushed towards Mr Mehmood’s room where he was standing carrying his gun.

The critically injured Sher Yar was taken to a private hospital located off the Mall but he died before reaching there. Later, his body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem, he added.

Mr Ahmed said as he reached the DHQ hospital along with his cousin’s body, he was informed by his grandmother Sakina Bibi that shortly after they left the house for the hospital her son Arif Mehmood also shot and killed his wife Shamim.

The alleged killer escaped from the scene. The two bodies were handed over to the family after postmortem.

The motive behind the double murder was stated to be some domestic dispute. Police said a team had been formed to arrest the alleged killer.
