PESHAWAR, May 29: The provincial government is considering 100 per cent increase in allocations for the ministry of sports in the upcoming budget keeping in view its good performance.

An allocation of Rs1413.702 million has been proposed for the sports ministry in 2011-12 budget of which Rs215.638 million would be spent on completing 11 ongoing projects and Rs280 million for launching seven new schemes.

Talking to this agency on Sunday, Provincial Minister for Sports, Syed Aqil Shah, said Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti, after being encouraged by the performance of the ministry of sports, had declared it as productive sector for the first time, thus increase in allocations.

Mr Aqil Shah thanked the chief minister for recognising the services of those associated with different sports. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province suffered a lot due to militancy and the youth were traumatised. But the continued sports activities in the province had given them a new vigour and life.

The allocations for the ongoing projects are: rehabilitation of Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium Peshawar (Rs19.997 million), reconstruction of old pavilion at Qayyum Stadium Peshawar (Rs1.226 million), rehabilitation of Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium (Rs9.658 million), playground at Landi Arbab Peshawar (Rs10 million), construction of playground at Daud Shah Bannu (Rs10.387 million), playground at Badbher (Rs5 million), provision of sports facilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Rs63.320 million), Khan Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex (Rs90 million), promotion of sports activities in KP (Rs20 million), establishment of playgrounds in KP (Rs50 million), provision of additional facilities at Sports Complex, Younus Stadium, Mardan (Rs40 million).

Similarly, the projects to be launched include rehabilitation of Mansehra stadium (Rs15 million), rehabilitation of Tehmas Khan football stadium (Rs15 million), rehabilitation and improvement of KP sports stadiums (Rs120 million), purchase of sports equipments (Rs15 million), promotion of sports activities in KP phase-II (Rs40 million), establishment of sports grounds in KP (Rs25 million) and rehabilitation of Hayatabad Sports Complex (Rs50 million).—APP
