Minor girl killed on road

ATTOCK, May 3: A minor girl were killed and a spiritual healer was injured in separate incidents in different areas of the district, police said on Tuesday.

A local resident Naveed Akhtar has reported to Attock city Police station that his two-year-old girl was playing outside his house at Muhallah Madina Masjid Attock city, when a pickup hit her due to reckless driving.

As a result, she was seriously injured and was rushed to the district headquarters hospital but she could not survive. —Correspondent

Inspection commission chief

MUZAFFARABAD, May 3: The AJK government on Tuesday appointed Raja Mohammad Farooq Niaz, a BPS-21 officer, as chairman Implementation and Inspection Commission.

Recently, Mr Niaz was transferred from additional chief secretary (general) to chairman Tevta.

He had got interim relief against that order on the grounds that his administrative secretary was quite junior to him in service. In order to resolve the issue the government upgraded the post of chairman Implementation and Inspection Commission and appointed him against it.

Earlier, mostly the ruling party leaders were appointed against this post with the status of minister. — Staff Correspondent

Prisoner escapes

GUJAR KHAN, May 3: An under trial prisoner (UTP) escaped from police custody in Gujar Khan, and the police authorities have arrested sub inspector for dereliction of duties.

According to the police sources, Mohammad Hanif, an accused of murder case, escaped when he was being shifted from judicial lock-up to the local court.

Later, SP (rural) Hilal Khan reached Gujar Khan and after an enquiry found sub-inspector Mohammad Ashraf negligent. — Correspondent

Ice cream ‘factory’ sealed

RAWALPINDI, May 3: The district health department on Tuesday sealed a ‘factory’ at Dhoke Dalal for making substandard ice cream.

A team of the health department under the supervision of Dr Ansar Ishaq raided the private house being used as a factory without getting licence.

They collected chemicals and substandard materials being used to prepare ice cream and dispatched the samples to Lahore for laboratory test.

Dr Ishaq said District Coordination Officer Saqib Zafar had directed the department to launch a drive against substandard food items.

He said substandard ice creams spoiled the health of people, especially children, and such illegal businesses would not be allowed to flourish. — A Reporter

Four held for stealing truck

ISLAMABAD, May 3: Four people have been arrested for stealing a truck loaded with rice worth Rs2.6 million, police said on Tuesday.

Shaukat Mehmud, a resident of Gora Syedan, told Sihala police that his truck (DMR-855), driven by Turab Khan, was loaded with rice April 16. But the driver and the truck went missing on the same day.

A police team under the supervision of SHO Sajjad Hussain Bukhari succeeded in arresting the driver along with Syed Yusuf Shah, Zamail Khan and Ehsan Ullah. Police said the rice in the truck was sold in Peshawar and Bhadana.— Staff Reporter
