THE tax facilitation portal of the FBR — www.e.fbr.gov.pk — needs some quick measures for the rectification of discrepancies and errors which taxpayers face now and then while submitting statements and returns online.

Taxpayers feel a lot of trouble while attaching files as most often it requires to reload the website which wastes a lot of time. Sometimes correct statements on importing them to the FBR website show errors. The same file on repeating the procedure many times gets imported to the portal error-free. But the whole process is quite time-consuming and tedious.

The recently added sample statement for quarterly e-filing of statements under section 165 is also causing a lot of trouble as instead of adding columns in the MS Excel file for surcharge on tax payable, they have shown it in new rows, making it complex, time-consuming and impractical to draw inferences from these statements.

In this era of information technology, if website is causing problems, then this is certainly a question mark over the administrative responsiveness of the authorities concerned. I request the FBR administration to facilitate taxpayers in these procedural matters of online tax statements and returns submissions, making it a hassle-free and user-friendly service.
