GILGIT, April 14: The central police office on Thursday reinstated the services of 55 police personnel who were fired for taking part in a protest demonstration last year for demanding raise in salaries.

“The inspector general police has reinstated services of 55 personnel of various ranks who were terminated for agitation in uniform and demanding enhancement in salaries,” personal staff officer of the police chief told this correspondent on Thursday.

The personnel had marched onto roads and chanted slogans against the chief minister. The police chief had apologised for the protest by the force in uniform and chief minister had pardoned them but after a few months the IGP started disciplinary action against those who had taken part in the protest.

The police chief also collected CCTV footages and fired the protesting cops triggering severe reaction from the political leadership and lawmakers against the terminations and demands for their reinstatement.—Correspondent
