KARACHI: Over 70 shops in Karachi’s Empress Market caught fire early Sunday resulting in the burning of goods worth millions of rupees, DawnNews reported.
However, fire fighters took control of the situation after two hours.
The fire affected 25 per cent of the market.
The shops which were burnt down were of dry fruits and daily household items.
"Fire-extinguishing vehicles from all over the city were called at the site to control the fire,” a fire brigade official said.
Police and Rangers reached the site of the incident and cordoned off the area.
Rescue teams also reached the site immediately.
Moreover, no casualty was reported in the incident.
The market was inaugurated in 1889, it is famous for selling groceries and daily household items such as fruits, vegetables as well as utensils used in cooking.
