President Zardari did not discuss the major problems being faced by the nation: Chaudhry Nisar.—File photo

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan criticised the presidential address to the joint session of the parliament on Tuesday and said the address had only fulfilled the constitutional requirement.

“President Zardari did not discuss the major problems being faced by the nation,” Nisar criticised while speaking to media persons outside the Parliament House.

He said that the opposition succeeded in registering its protest by staging a walkout during the address.

Nisar further added that Zardari only addressed the parliamentary parties of the ruling coalition today and not the joint session.

Meanwhile, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman termed the boycott during the presidential address as a right step and said events such as the release of CIA contractor Raymond Davis, the deteriorating law and order situation in the country and the crippling economy had led to the embarrassment of the government.
