ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee (PC) on appointment of superior court judges decided on Wednesday to file a petition in the Supreme Court for review of its verdict setting aside the committee's decision to reject grant of extension in service to six additional judges of high courts as recommended by the Judicial Commission (JC).
On March 4, a four-member bench of the apex court brushed aside the committee's decision not to grant one-year extension to two additional judges of the Sindh High Court and four of the Lahore High Court, after hearing two petitions challenging the rejection of the JC's recommendation.The committee, which met in the Parliament House with Nayyar Hussain Bokhari in the chair, described the verdict as “prejudiced”. It said the court had ignored the reasons given for rejecting the recommendation.
These reasons had been forwarded to the commission through the prime minister's office.
The committee based its decision on the unflattering remarks made by the chief justice of the high court concerned or adverse reports submitted by intelligence agencies.
After the meeting, Mr Bokhari told reporters that Additional Attorney General K.K. Agha had briefed the committee on the court proceedings and the verdict.
He said the committee had decided to write to the prime minister, requesting him to make the federal government a party in the case.
