ISLAMABAD, March 6: The Election Commission of Pakistan is expected to declare Javed Michael of the PPP returned on the reserved seat for minorities in the National Assembly.

A notification to this effect is likely to be issued on Monday, sources said.

The seat fell vacant after the assassination of federal Minister for Minorities Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti.

The sources said that in November 2007, the PPP had provided to the Election Commission a list placing Dr Kathumal Jiwan as its second priority candidate after Mr Bhatti and Mr Michael as the third preference.

Dr Jiwan was later elected to the Senate.—Online
