KOHAT, Feb 27: Militants blew up three girls’ schools, a telephone exchange and a basic health unit in Tor Chappar village of Darra Adamkhel early on Sunday morning.

Officials confirmed that three schools, two primary and one middle, had been bombed between 4am and 5am.

Tor Chappar is adjacent to Jawaki in the frontier region near Kohat and has been in the news for some time because of clashes between militants and the army. Security forces which claim to have gained control of the area have not confirmed Sunday morning’s incidents.

Local tribesmen could not be contacted because mobile phone service has been suspended and land lines have been dead since the beginning of this month.

Thousands of girls were out of schools in Darra Adamkhel since 2008 and women teachers had been warned by Amir of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan for Darra Adamkhel and Khyber Agency against coming to the area.

More than 100 school buildings, almost all bridges and khasadar checkposts had been destroyed over the past three years.
