KARACHI, Feb 15: A suspected member of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan was picked up by law-enforcement personnel from a private hospital here on Tuesday. Four other suspects were arrested from outside the hospital.

The raid on the hospital in North Nazimabad was carried out by personnel of a secret agency with the assistance of police who cordoned off the area.

However, there were conflicting reports about the place where the suspect was injured.

A senior police officer said the man was brought to the hospital from Peshawar after having been injured there. But officials said he was wounded in Karachi four days ago.

North Nazimabad SP Zafar Iqbal was tightlipped over the detention, but admitted that police had helped an intelligence agency arrest a suspect.

A senior officer of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) said the man, identified as Sarzameen Khan, was injured four days ago in the limits of New Karachi industrial area police station. He was brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where a medico-legal report was issued and he was referred to Jinnah hospital for further treatment.

According to sources, the suspect suffered a gunshot wound near his eye, but instead of going to JPMC, he went to the private hospital in North Nazimabad for treatment.

They said that intelligence personnel had first rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for inquiring about the whereabouts of Sarzameen.

The four unknown men detained from outside the hospital had come to see the suspected TTP man. sources said.
