TIMERGARA: A guard of ANP leader Senator Zahid Khan was killed and his brother injured when some people attacked his hujra (guest house) in Odigram, Lower Dir district, on Tuesday evening.

Police said gunmen stormed the hujra and opened fire on people sitting there.

Guard Bakht Shehzad alias Malang was killed on the spot and Mohammad Ayub Khan, a brother of Senator Zahid Khan, was injured. The assailants escaped.

The injured was taken to the Timergara district headquarters hospital, but doctors referred him to Peshawar because of his critical condition.

Ayub Khan, ANP's district general secretary, contested election twice from NA-34, Lower Dir.

Suspected militants had blown up a guest house of Senator Zahid Khan soon after the launching of military operation in Lower Dir in 2009.

The family had received several threats from militants for their affiliation with the ANP, which played a major role in flushing out militants from Dir and Swat.
