PESHAWAR, Dec 28: The Asian 100-metre champion, Nasim Hameed, and Liaquat Ali, both of Army, won women's and men's 100-metre races in the 31st National Games at the Qayyum Stadium on Tuesday.

Nasim secured the first position by clocking 12.80 seconds in the 100-metre race.

Sumera Tayyaba of Wapda got silver while Samreen Naz of the same department won bronze.

Talking to media, Nasim said the government and departments should make further efforts for promotion of sports.

She said her aim was to win the 100-metre race and she was very happy that her efforts bore fruit.

Liaquat Ali, meanwhile, clocked 10.78 seconds to win the gold, followed by Mohammad Imran of Army and Hafiz Mohammad Safdar of Wapda.

In women's triple jump, Maryam Babar of Wapda made new national record with the distance of 11.66 metres and won gold medal.

She was followed by Aliya Noor of Wapda and Razia Sher Khan of HEC.

Rabia Ashiq and Gul Naz Ara of Wapda won gold and silver respectively in women's 800-metre race. Najma Parveen of Punjab secured third position.

In the 10,000-metre race (women), Wapda's Rabia Ashiq secured gold, Punjabs Rana Kiran got silver and Fakhra Parveen of Wapda received bronze.

In the 100-metre hurdles (women), Sumera Tayyaba and Muzamil Ilyas got gold and silver medals respectively while Nadia Khan of Army secured bronze.

In the 400-metre hurdles (women), Muzamila Ilyas and Ali Noor of Wapda got gold and silver medals respectively while Nadia Khan of Army clinched bronze.

In the long jump (women), Wapda's Maryam won gold medal, Army's Nasim Hameed took silver medal while Wapda's Nadia Zulfiqar got bronze.

Wapda's Razia Sultana and Zeenat Parveen got gold and silver medals respectively in hammer throw (women). Abida Changazi of Railways got bronze.

Saira Saeed and Parveen Akhtar of Wapda grabbed gold and silver respectively in women's javelin throw. Madiha Latif of HEC claimed bronze.

Wapda's Asad Iqbal and Saeed Ahmad won gold and silver medals respectively in 400-metre (men) competition. Kamran of PAF secured bronze medal.

In the 800-metre (men) race, Ali Mohammad and Farhan Ahmed of Wapda won gold and silver respectively while HECs Mohammad Asim clinched bronze.

Gulshan Masih of Wapda received gold in the 5,000-metre race while Sakhawat of PAF and Naseeb Khan of Wapda claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the 400-metre hurdles (men), Wapda's Adeel Akhtar won gold, HECs Zahid Ali silver and Wapda's Bilal Maqsood secured bronze.

Azhar Abbas of Wapda won gold in hammer throw (men) while Ghulam Shabbir of Army got silver and Nadeem Ahmad of Wapda won bronze.

In men's pole vault, Adnan Anjum and Mohammad Jaffar of Army won gold and silver medals respectively followed by Mohammad Ismail of Wapda. KARATE:

In individual kata (women), Zuhra of Wapda won gold while Raheela Shaheen of Army and Maimoona Qadeer of Punjab grabbed silver and bronze.

In the team kata, Wapda's team comprising Zuhara, Sohaila and Sumiya won gold medal while Shahida, Naz and Zahara of Balochistan took silver medal.

Maimoona, Iqra and Samra of Punjab secured bronze medal.

In 61kg and above category (women), Kulsoom Hazara of Wapda won gold while Huma Tabbassum of Army got silver and Iqra of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won bronze medal. WRESTLING:

Wapda wrestlers exhibited great show and won overall first position by 69 votes.

Army was declared second by scoring 60 points while HEC with 45 points stood third.

Federal Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour distributed medals among the players. Provincial Minister for Sports Aqil Shah, Secretary General of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation Chaudhry Asghar and large number of spectators were present on the occasion.

Wapda had a gold medal in 60kg, 74kg and 120kg with bronze medals in 55kg, 66kg, 84kg, and 96kg.

Army followed Wapda with two gold medals in 55kg and 96kg and three silver medals in 60kg, 66kg, and 74kg.

HEC won two gold medals in 66kg and 84kg and a silver medal in 120kg.

The women team event was won by Wapda as they defeated Army at the PSB Coaching Centre.

Ayesha (Wapda) defeated Kanwal (Army) 11-6, 11-4, 11-9; Loweza (Wapda) overcame Asma (Army) 11-7, 11-5, 11-9; while Sadia (Wapda) thrashed Seemab (Army) 11-8, 11-8, 11-9. NETBALL:

Sindh and Army women teams have reached the final. In the semi-finals played at the PAF Sports Complex, Sindh beat Balochistan 53-38 while Army overcame Punjab 45-30.

In men's netball, Police and Army took berth into the final.

In the first semi-final, Police defeated Sindh 31-26, while in the second, Army beat Wapda 50-49.
