Karachi: Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Apna Ghar Scheme for PIA employees was formally inaugurated Saturday by President Asif Ali Zardari at PIA Head Office, Karachi, which was attended by thousands of employees, ministers and parliamentarians.
The President congratulated PIA employees on initiation of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Apna Ghar Scheme and also congratulated airline management. Zardari instructed Managing Director PIA that 3,000 daily wages employees of PIA to be given permanent job status, 15 per cent increase in salary of employees of Pay groups 1 to IV with effect from 1st January 2011, allowances of PIA Cabin Crew to be restored as of year 2001, increase in insurance coverage of Cabin Crew of Pay groups 1 to IV from Rs. 300,000/- to Rs. 600,000/- and increase in insurance from Rs. 600,000/- to 1200,000/- of Cabin Crew of Pay groups V and above.
He said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Apna Ghar housing scheme will be offered in other cities as well and will be for PIA and CAA Pakistan. He distributed allotment certificates to 10 female employees of PIA.
Managing Director PIA, Captain Aijaz Haroon in his address dispelled impression of losses faced by the airline. He said PIA after five years achieved operating profit and will Inshallah by close of year 2010 will earn revenue of Rs. 100 billion, 25 per cent increase in revenue as compared to last year’s revenue of Rs. 80 billion. Airline realized a combined seat factor of 76 per cent on Domestic and International routes this year. This was achieved with combined efforts of all employees.
He said PIA was competing with those airlines who placed orders for over 200 new aircraft. Other airlines are provided financial support in times of need. PIA did not get any financial support from the government and achieved positive results. However, in order to affectively compete with other airlines, it is imperative that the government approves PIA’s business plan. He congratulated the launch of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Apna Ghar Scheme for employees (staff cadre) of PIA of Pay Groups 1-IV, a township consisting of over 1,900 apartments.
