There’s this American punk band (of Pakistani descent) called The Kominas. If you’re a regular reader of western music magazines, you might have come across its name once or twice. It doesn’t have a huge fan base but it is working hard towards it. It’s no gumnaam group either, particularly in Boston, their home city.
The Kominas has done the cover tune of a famous Bollywood song Choli ke peechay. Chances are with this effort it might go places. The punk version of the double-meaning tune is something that you wouldn’t want to miss out on. The heavy guitar riffs, the thumping drum rolls and some creative additions to the composition are worth hearing over and over. Only the vocals leave a tad much to be desired. And that’s the risk that you take when rehashing a tune that needs overhauling.
