HARIPUR, Nov 6: A boy died of dengue fever in Makhan village of Mankraye union council of the district, family sources said here on Saturday.

They claimed that the boy was tenth victim of the disease that had been haunting the people of Haripur as the district was declared as dengue-hit area by World Health Boy dies of dengue fever Organisation.

They said that nine-year-old Adnan Saleem son of Mohammad Saleem was admitted to a local hospital with the symptoms of high fever, nausea and orbital pain few days ago. “He was later referred to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad where he remained for about a week and his blood test proved that he was dengue positive,” they added.

He died on Friday night at PIMS and was laid to rest at his ancestral village on Saturday, family sources said. EDO Health Dr Mohammad Idrees was not available for comments.Meanwhile, official sources confirmed, on the condition of anonymity, that 232 blood samples of dengue suspects were collected and sent to NIH for test.

The NIH, according to sources, have sent back the results of 132 samples out of which 35 have been tested positive while 21 patients belonging to the district were tested positive through Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad. About 15 patients with similar symptoms were under surveillance at DHQ Haripur.
