MUZAFFARABAD, June 12: Two people were killed and at least five others injured in Indian shelling in Azad Kashmir on Wednesday, despite indications that tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad were easing, officials here said.

They said a 47-year-old woman, identified as Alam Din, wife of Piran, was killed, and Manzoor Hussain was injured in Tatta Pani sector in district Kotli, where shelling resumed at 10.30am.

Shelling also resumed in Khuiratta and Nakyal sectors in the same district. But it was intermittent. In Khuiratta sector, two persons, Dil Mohammad and his son Khalid, were injured in Saidpur village, and another one, identified as Mohammad Hussain, was injured in Khanqah Kotehra village.

In Hajira sector of district Poonch, where shelling began at 8am and continued throughout the day, one person was injured in Battal village.

A 10-year-old boy, Ajmal, son of Ghulam Yayha, who was critically injured in Lesva village in Neelum valley on Tuesday died in the hospital on Wednesday.

In the southernmost Bhimbher district, shelling continued throughout the night, but officials said the LoC was generally quiet on Wednesday.
