GUJRANWALA, April 8: Five policemen were injured when half a dozen men attacked the City Kamoki police station to kill their rivals , including an MPA's brother, early on Thursday morning. They lobbed hand grenades and opened indiscriminate fire at the captives.

Reports said the armed men reached the police station on three motorcycles to kill MPA Amanat Ali Virk's brother, Saifullah Virk, and his cousin, Munshi Shahzad, who were serving jail in a murder case.

The assailants lobbed hand grenades and sprayed bullets due to which five policemen standing outside the lock-up suffered injuries. The injured were head constable Ghulam Rasul, constable Niamat Ali, Shaukat Ali, Jamshed Ahmad, and wireless operator Muhammad Nasir.

They were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital where the condition of the constable was stated to be serious. The suspects fled before the police could retaliate. Later, a contingent of the Elite Force, headed by additional SP Waqar Ahmad Chauhan reached the troubled spot. He directed expedient action to arrest the assailants.

At Bhadey village, a police party took four of the suspects into custody. The assailants had also fired indiscriminately outside the residence of Punjab Transport Minister Chaudhry Shamshad Ahmad Khan.

Police said Muhammad Amin, brother of PPP's slain president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun's former gunman Pervez, was killed by a group of the MPA over collection of adda fee at Tetley village.

Subsequently, a murder case was registered against the MPA's brother Saifullah Virk, his cousin Shahzad, Nasirullah and Riaz Ahmad. Police detained them at the City Kamoki police station. The police claimed that Pervez was among those arrested for investigation.

GANG BUSTED: Saddar police claimed on Thursday to have busted a gang of robbers and recovered booty and weapons from their possession in quantity.
