CHAKWAL, Jan 15: A group of 25 opposition members of union council Karsal held a meeting at the residence of UC Nazim Pir Nisar Qasim and handed over their resignation to the leader of the opposition in the district assembly, Major Abrar Hussain Shah, on Thursday.

The opposition members alleged that despite repeated assurances from the Chakwal district Nazim, their areas had been ignored in development schemes and even a single project was not planned for their constituencies.

The meeting was presided over by Major Abrar Hussain Shah. Speaking on the occasion, Malik Aslam, Raja Ejaz Ahmad, Malik Feroz Khan, Pir Nisar Qasim, Tariq Mehmood Advocate, Malik Lal Khan also rejected the recent recruitment of 475 teachers and termed it a fraud as they alleged that merit had been ignored. They also demanded an inquiry into it. It was decided that a white paper would be issued to make public all the alleged malpractices of the district government.

MEETING: The district council will meet on January 17 with Naib Nazim Malik Tariq Naeem in the chair. Various important matters would be discussed while a resolution will also be adopted to condemn attacks on President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

Dhan Ghourasi Award: The Dhan Ghourasi Award would be conferred on Chairman Bazm-i-Elmo Fun Pakistan Prof Shaukat Ali Wasti for his services for promotion of Urdu literature in the UK and Pakistan.
