PESHAWAR, Sept 2: An Afghan child has tested positive for polio, bringing the number of afflicted children to 16 in the NWFP this year.

Nine-month-old Mohammad, of Zindai refugee camp, was diagnosed with the disease by the National Institute of Health in Islamabad. The child had received 11 doses of polio drops.

Officials said four of the 16 cases involved Afghans. Of the 12 local children, three had not received any dose of oral polio vaccine.

The other nine contracted the disease despite having received between 1 and 14 doses of OPV.—Bureau
