KARACHI: Acting on the directives of Vice Chancellor Dr Wasim Qazi, the University of Karachi has initiated a comprehensive audit of its examination system to assess operational efficiency, strengthen transparency and accountability, and introduce digital reforms across examination related processes.

According to a notification issued on Friday, the university has constituted a committee to evaluate the organisational structure, performance, human resource capacity and internal controls of the Office of the Examinations.

The committee will be headed by Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikram Uddin Ujjan as its convener. Other members include Sulaiman Ahmad, director, regional centre, Higher Education Commission; Dr Naveed Yousuf, chief executive officer, examinations board and associate professor of practice, education development; and Dr Shah Muneer, associate registrar, admissions, enrolment and degree advisory, IBA Karachi.

The committee will examine the entire examination cycle, including scheduling, paper setting, assessment, result processing, scrutiny, declaration of results, issuance of transcripts and degrees and verification of academic records.

It will also review confidentiality arrangements, data security, record management and accountability mechanisms, while identifying procedural bottlenecks, delays and duplication of work.

A key component of the exercise will be the development of a time bound roadmap for digital transformation, including digital records, automated result processing, audit trails, online student services, application tracking and verification of academic credentials.

The committee will also recommend standard operating procedures, measurable performance indicators, service delivery timelines, compliance monitoring and mechanisms for addressing student grievances.

According to the notification, the committee is required to submit its report to the vice chancellor within 15 working days. The report will include its findings, proposed reforms, resource requirements, implementation timelines and measurable outcomes.

The KU registrar has been directed to facilitate the committee’s work and ensure that all offices concerned provide the necessary records, documents and administrative support.

The university said the exercise would focus on institutional improvement, procedural integrity and systemic reform, while ensuring due process and safeguarding students’ academic interests.

The initiative forms part of efforts to establish a more transparent, accountable, efficient and digitally enabled examination framework at the University of Karachi.
