• Says Rakhni is being developed as a model division to strengthen province’s development landscape
• Praises security forces for foiling an attempt to target a construction company in Gwadar
QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has said that the establishment of smaller administrative units is essential to ensure the delivery of government services to people at their doorsteps.
He said that alongside the creation of new provinces, there was also a need to establish smaller divisions and districts to facilitate public access to civil administration and government departments.
The chief minister expressed these views while speaking to the media at a press conference in North Dera Bugti on Friday.
He said all divisional posts for Koh-i-Suleman Division had been approved and that officers and staff would be appointed to these positions soon.
CM Bugti said the debate on establishing smaller administrative units had only recently begun at the national level, whereas he had initiated work on the matter two years ago, keeping in view Balochistan’s unique circumstances and the needs of its people.
He stressed that the administrative structure must be designed to bring state institutions and civil administration closer to the public so that people would not face difficulties in accessing government services.
The chief minister said efforts were underway to develop Rakhni as a model division of Balochistan and give it a prominent place in the province’s development landscape. He observed that Rakhni should have been granted divisional status much earlier, but the development process had now begun.
He said strict instructions had been issued to ensure that development projects in Rakhni remained free from corruption, corrupt practices and commission-based dealings. The communications and works department was directly implementing the development schemes to ensure transparency, he added. CM Bugti said the
government was committed to maintaining complete transparency in the development projects in the town.
Referring to the terrorist incident in Gwadar, the chief minister praised the timely response of security forces for foiling an attempt to target the building of a construction company.
He said the sacrifices and operations of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and police in the fight against terrorism in Balochistan were commendable.
The chief minister said a decline in terrorist incidents in the province since August was a positive development resulting from the sustained efforts of the security forces.
