CHARSADDA: The Awami National Party (ANP) has called for alternative arrangements for students of Government Abdul Ali Khan Degree College Utmanzai Charsadda after its building was sealed over safety concerns, disrupting academic activities.

A team comprising ANP Charsadda district general secretary Shahzaduddin, tehsil president Gohar Ayub Khan and deputy general secretary Zaman Shah visited the college and met its staff to discuss the institution’s problems and measures to ensure continuity of education.

According to the party, the college has been operating in the hostel building of Government Postgraduate College Charsadda since 2013 on a temporary basis.

The building developed cracks, prompting the assistant commissioner and a team from the communication and works (C&W) department to inspect the premises and temporarily seal it over concerns about students’ safety.

The closure forced the college to suspend classes on Oct 20, raising concerns about the academic future of its students.

During their visit, the ANP leaders discussed immediate arrangements for holding classes at Government Postgraduate College Charsadda. They subsequently met the postgraduate college principal to explore the possibility of starting second-shift classes for the affected students.

The delegation also met additional deputy commissioner Rina Abbas at the deputy commissioner’s office to discuss the proposed arrangements. According to the ANP, the official assured them that a formal notification regarding the second-shift classes would be issued the same day.

The party leaders stressed that urgent measures were needed to prevent academic disruption and safeguard students’ future. They also called for a permanent solution to the college’s accommodation problem, which has persisted for around 13 years.

Meanwhile, residents of Charsadda and students of the college urged ANP president Senator Aimal Wali Khan to take up the matter with the relevant authorities and help secure alternative government premises or funds for the construction of a permanent building.
