LAHORE: An antiterrorism court on Tuesday dismissed the post-arrest bail petition of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan in a May 9 case.

Judge Malik Abid Hussain heard the bail petition and arguments from the lawyers. The petitioner’s counsel stated that his client had been implicated in the case on political ground. He said the petitioner was not even present at the alleged occurrence.

However, the investigating officer told the court that Dewan was present at the scene at the time of the incident and there was substantial evidence against him.

The judge dismissed the petition, relying on the arguments and evidence of the prosecution.

Dewan was arrested in a case involving speeches, attacks and vandalism at Sherpao Bridge during the May 9 riots.
