LAHORE: With climate perils striking at an unprecedented frequency, food security has escalated from a regional priority to an urgent household crisis across Pakistan, experts warned on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming Agri-Connections Conference and Expo.

Speaking at a media briefing, Pakistan Agricultural Coalition (PAC) Chief Executive Officer Kazim Saeed announced that the two-day event, themed “Food Security and Agri-Investment in the Era of Climate Change,” will run from Oct 1-2 at the Expo Centre, Johar Town.

Highlighting the structural challenges facing the sector, Mr Saeed noted that the country’s agricultural exports remained a fraction of their potential due to persistent food safety concerns, an issue to be addressed by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) during the conference.

Additionally, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) would brief the stakeholders on engaging the private sector as Pakistan transitioned away from a government-administered wheat regime.
