KARACHI: Hasan Raza struck a record-breaking double century while Abdullah Fazal hit a ton as the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) took complete control against Ghani Glass on the second day of their President’s Trophy Grade-I match on Friday, while Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) were left in deep trouble against Markhor IT Solutions (MIT).
Hasan smashed an unbeaten 204 off 203 balls, including 28 fours and two sixes, and Abdullah made 168 not out as the pair put together an unbroken opening stand of 378 at the National Ground in Islamabad. Their partnership gave the SBP a 56-run first-innings lead with all 10 wickets intact at stumps.
Hasan’s double century was particularly notable as he reached the landmark in 190 balls — the fastest first-class double century by a Pakistan batter in domestic cricket. The left-hander surpassed his previous first-class best of 174.
Abdullah, meanwhile, marked his return to competitive red-ball cricket after May with his fifth first-class century. He faced 207 balls and struck 19 fours and four sixes.
The two openers’ dominant display came after Ghani Glass, resuming on 263-6, were bowled out for 322. Ali Razzaq completed his second first-class century, scoring 101 off 129 balls with 13 fours and three sixes.
SBP’s Arshadullah and Shahid Aziz took three wickets apiece.
At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar, SNGPL’s problems deepened as they slipped to 32-3 in reply to MIT’s imposing 434-9 declared.
SNGPL still trail by 402 runs in their first innings, with Mohammad Ismail claiming two of the three wickets to fall. The pacer dismissed Sameer Minhas and Abdullah Shafique, while Mohammad Imran Jr removed Azan Awais.
MIT had declared after reaching 434-9, with Atiq-ur-Rehman’s 138 and Syed Awad Naqvi’s 78 forming the backbone of their innings.
Atiq, who had resumed on 136, added only two runs before being dismissed, while Awad’s 258-ball stay was ended on 78 by Sajid Khan. The pair had added 221 for the fourth wicket.
MIT’s lower order then pushed the total beyond 400, with Abuzar Tariq and Ismail scoring 35 apiece, Samama Riaz making 33 and captain Khalid Usman remaining unbeaten on 33.
SNGPL’s Mohammad Imran was the pick of their bowlers with 3-54 while Naseem Shah and Mohammad Azab took two wickets each.
At Abbottabad Stadium, KRL reached 377-8 against the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) after only 49 overs were possible during the day.
Sarmad Bhatti held the KRL innings together with an unbeaten 122 off 198 balls, hitting 21 fours. He shared a 145-run sixth-wicket partnership with Faheem Ashraf, who made 83 off 100 balls with 16 fours.
OGDCL’s Mohammad Hasnain took 3-79, while Razaullah claimed two wickets.
At Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad, Kingsmen Academy reached 237-2 in reply to Pakistan Television’s 355, with Test batter Mohammad Huraira unbeaten on 133.
Huraira struck 20 fours in his 12th first-class century and shared 186 for the second wicket with Mohammad Suleman, who scored 71.
PTV pacer Kashif Ali claimed two wickets, including that of Kingsmen captain Mohammad Tayyab Arif for 24 and Suleman late in the day. Saud Shakeel was unbeaten without scoring when play ended.
