KARACHI: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader and Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday condemned the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan for a failed attempt to “mislead the people” by tabling a resolution against the so-called Sindhudesh.

In a statement, he accused the opposition party of trying to give a “controversial colour” to a resolution passed by the Sindh Assembly against the division of the province a day before.

He said the resolution moved by the PPP was aimed at strengthening the federation and that portraying it as “controversial” reflected the opposition’s “lack of understanding”. He said the PPP had ensured the historical and geographical unity of Sindh through the assembly and would not allow the province’s territorial unity to be compromised.

“Sindh is one and will always remain one,” the minister said. “The Sindh Assembly has given its final decision on the matter. “Whether it is Sindhudesh or Jinnahpur, the PPP knows how to defend the country in every situation.”

He claimed that the MQM-P had proved by “boycotting” the proceedings that it was part of an “anti-Sindh conspiracy” while the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-i-Islami had demonstrated this by remaining absent.

He said those talking about the division of Sindh were playing with the country’s integrity.
