KARACHI: Investigators probing the murder case of young businessman Mir Raza Ali have sought the technical expertise of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to unlock the deceased’s digital footprint, it emerged on Wednesday.
IBA graduate and owner of the eatery Wafflix Mir Raza had gone missing on July 28 and his bullet-riddled body was found a day later in bushes near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
A seven-member team, headed by DIG Amir Farooqui, is currently investigating the case.
Sources said they are trying to retrieve Raza’s “digital records / WhatsApp account details” through the NCCIA to determine whether there is anything suspicious.

The sources said that the investigation team also recorded the statement of the online cab driver who dropped Mir Raza in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on July 28.
Abad expresses concern over Raza’s murder, extortion threats Also on Wednesday, the Association of Builders and Developers (Abad) hosted Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho at their office.
Abad chairman Muhammad Hasan Bakhshi said that the investigation into the Mir Raza case was undermining citizens’ confidence in state institutions. He said that his parents should be provided justice.
Mr Bakhshi said that builders were receiving calls from numbers based in Uzbekistan and other countries and the extortionists were threatening to carry out bomb attacks on builders’ projects.
Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said that the police would not rest until the elements involved in the Raza murder case were exposed.
He said builders were among the groups most affected by extortion rackets and that the police would play their role in addressing their complaints and ensuring their protection.
He said action has been taken not only against those criminals whose names were provided by ABAD, but also against other extortionists.
The IGP further said that red notices had already been issued for extortionists operating from abroad. “The paperwork is lengthy, but the police have already done the necessary work in this regard,” he said.
He said that the crime rate in Karachi has declined by 14 per cent, while incidents of murder and violence across Sindh have decreased by 70pc.
Meanwhile, at a press conference, Ashraf Qureshi of Tehreek-i-Bahali Karachi demanded that a joint investigation team probe Raza’s murder.
