GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a key suspect involved in April 2026 Libyan boat tragedy deaths in which 16 Pakistanis were killed.
Moreover, the FIA Gujranwala zone has arrested 15 human traffickers, including five proclaimed offenders, during a crackdown on human trafficking networks across the region.
A senior FIA official told Dawn, human trafficker Akbar Ali, who was also a PO, had been arrested by Gujrat FIA circle during a raid.
Meanwhile, the FIA arrested six such agents outside the Passport Office in Hafizabad.
A spokesman said an FIA team raided at a place outside the Passport Office where some agents were busy receiving money from the applicants to get their passport applications processed. He said cases were being lodged against six arrested suspects.
Earlier last week, agency had arrested 18 agents from the passport offices of Gujranwala region.
In yet another development, the FIA Gujranwala arrested three suspects involved in financial scam in the commercial banking whereas two suspects were arrested for committing violation of the copyright laws. An official of Gujranwala electric power company Gepco was arrested red-handed while receiving the bribe from a citizen.
