LAHORE: The Syndicate of the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS), Lahore, has approved Rs4.870 billion budget for the financial year 2026-27 with focus on innovation, applied research, skill-based practical learning, enhancing hands-on training for students, improving quality of education, services and transfer of technology, to boost the livestock sector.

Chairing the 79th Syndicate meeting, UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani said Rs917.349 million have been allocated for the ongoing projects during FY2026-27.

Among the ongoing projects, the VC said, Rs500m have been allocated for “Strengthening of KBCMA, CVAS” and Rs300m for UVAS Campus, Pattoki, while Rs117.349m for the establishment of ‘Wrestling Academy & Resource Centre’ under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) project “Establishment of Kamyab Jawan Sports Academies (High Performance & Resource Centres) and HEC Youth Olympics.”

Later, presenting the budget before the Syndicate, Treasurer Mr Muhammad Umar said the university expects non-development income of Rs3.243bn from different resources during FY2026-27, while non-development expenditures are expected at Rs3.952bn, projecting a deficit of Rs709.529m.

The treasurer said that Rs2.334bn are expected to be generated by the university from its own resources by starting production of Foot & Mouth vaccine, outsourcing poultry and fish farms, feed mill and milk plant, increasing its research-based products, diagnostic and clinical services and introducing market-based degree, diploma and certificate courses in various campuses as well, and shifting to solar energy etc.
