RAWALPINDI: The divisional administration on Thursday asked the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) to plant trees on main roads of the city in the monsoon plantation drive.
Commissioner Salman Ghani chaired a review meeting on the affairs of the PHA, ongoing development projects and the city’s beautification initiatives. He directed all departments to ensure the timely completion of projects aimed at making Rawalpindi a greener, more beautiful and environmentally friendly city. He stated that parks, greenbelts, and tree plantation play a vital role in providing citizens with a healthy and pleasant environment.
He instructed the PHA to undertake special tree plantation drives, floral arrangements, and theme-based decorations in parks, greenbelts and other public spaces.
He further directed that all ongoing projects be completed within the stipulated timeframe while ensuring quality maintenance and the expansion of green areas to transform Rawalpindi into a clean, green, and aesthetically attractive city. The meeting was attended by officials from the relevant departments.
PHA Director General Ahmed Hassan Ranjha briefed the participants on its operational framework, jurisdiction, ongoing projects, and future development strategy.
He said PHA is providing services in 46 Union Councils of TMA Rawal Town and 21 Union Councils of TMA Potohar Town, while managing and maintaining a total of 53 parks and greenbelts across its jurisdiction.
The meeting was informed that 12 pedestrian sit-outs, vertical plantation projects, decorative lighting on metro bus pillars, and children’s recreational facilities had been completed. Meanwhile, the rehabilitation and upgradation of the public park on Adiala Road is progressing at a fast pace.
He said that the deposit work for the Ring Road greenbelt and plantation project is underway. Under the Green Corridor initiative, a target of planting 40,000 trees has been set along both sides of the Ring Road, of which 24,200 trees have already been planted. Installation of two tubewells to meet the irrigation requirements of the greenbelt is also in progress.
